  • Parents can manage children’s accounts

Age Restrictions

Configure age-based access controls for minors:
childrenAuthRestrictionAge
number
Age below which users have restricted authentication. Children under this age may require parental consent or have limited platform access.Example: Set to 16 to require parental oversight for users under 16.
childrenMinRegistrationAge
number
Minimum age for registration. Users below this age cannot create accounts themselves.Example: Set to 13 to comply with COPPA or similar regulations.

Parental Controls

When a child account is linked to a parent:
  • Account creation - Parents can create accounts for children
  • Profile management - Parents can edit children’s profiles
  • Communication - Important emails may be copied to parents
  • Event registration - Parents may need to approve event sign-ups
  • Payment - Parents handle payments for minors
The specific controls depend on your module configuration and the child’s age relative to your restriction settings.

Use Cases

Scout groups, youth clubs, and sports teams often have parent accounts linked to child members.
Organizations offering family membership packages can track and manage family units.
Families can manage payments from a single parent account.

Privacy Considerations

Family connections involve sharing data between accounts:
  • Linked family members can see basic profile information
  • Parents have elevated access to children’s accounts
  • Email notifications may include family members
Make sure your privacy policy covers family data sharing. Inform users what information is shared when they link accounts.

Best Practices

Configure age restrictions based on your organization’s policies and applicable regulations (GDPR, COPPA, etc.).
Explain to members how family linking works and what data is shared.
The system supports various relationships - don’t assume traditional family structures.
Periodically audit family connections to ensure they’re legitimate.
